J K News Today
Pakistan has delivered on its promise of unleashing an anti-India propaganda on Kashmir on August 5 , some news media publications in the US, Gulf , and other places have come out with the Op-ed articles .
The dangerous potential of these OPED pieces is swirling around the UN resolutions on Kashmir, the revocation of Article 370 and the “demographic change” and alleged curtailment of civil liberties. These are well-written in easily comprehensible English language . These are repeat of such pieces written in the past sometimes with greater severity than the pieces that appeared today , but the common theme remains that Kashmir is unable to speak.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi while announcing Pakistan establishment’s programme of observing August 5 as “black day” , had categorically had let the cat out of bag that the OPED pieces would appear on the plight of Kashmiris .
So far so good.
Now, what is the problem with these articles- these are sheer propaganda pieces where the reality has been buried and the half-truths have been highlighted . There are profuse references to the UN resolutions on Kashmir . Though these resolutions have been rendered obsolete , yet even a cursory reading of these makes it plain that Pakistan was to vacate its army and all non-residents of J&K from the state, the parts of which it has occupied illegally. India was to retain its troops for maintenance of law and order .
Pakistan did not do what it was obliged to do. That is one story that tells the ill-intentions of Pakistan to fulfill its extra-territorial ambitions .
The resolution 47 of the UNSC asked Pakistan to withdraw all its army, tribesmen and all others who are not normally resident of the state and it should prevent any support to the elements that may reignite fighting. This is clause a of the resolution and clause (b) states that Pakistan will ensure that all the J&K residents are free of any fear and coercion to vote on the accession of J&K to India
And India was asked to reduce strength of its troops only after having been satisfied that tribesmen were withdrawing and the situation was normal.
Nothing of this sort happened . When the first step was not taken , how could the follow up step be taken. Much water has flown in all the rivers of J&K since . Pakistan must explain that why it did not do what it was asked to do by the UNSC, secondly history is not to be interpreted with a single lens prism , it has to be seen and read in its wholesome .
Now comes Simla Agreement of July 1972, it never honoured the commitment to resolve issues bilaterally, rather always sought to internationalise it . Some columnists of Pakistan have asked Islamabad to walk out of the Simla agreement , that is pointless as Pakistan never adhered to that pact. How the Lahore pact of 1999 was returned with Kargil war, and how the PM Modi’s visit on December 25, 1999, was returned with a series of terror attacks by Pakistan are well-documented events in history.
The media believes that Pakistan is all innocent . That is outright unethical and deliberate distortion of history. These are pamphlets not a real assessment based on the ground realities.
