Seven persons — four soldiers and three infiltrating terrorists killed in a gunfight close to Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of North Kashmir in early hours of Sunday morning. The Defence spokesman said that at about 0100h Border Security Force (BSF) patrol noticed suspicious movement near the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) (LoC Fence), about 3.5 KM from the LoC in Machil sector.
Firefight ensued in which one terrorist was killed along with a BSF soldier who was Killed in action( KIA). The firefight stopped at 0400h.According to the spokesman more troops were rushed to the area.
“The terrorists’ movement was tracked by surveillance devices,” he told.
Contact between security forces and intruders was re-established at 1020h when heavy fire was drawn by security search parties approximately 1.5 km from the LoC. In the ensuing firefight two more terrorists were killed. Army troops suffered three KIA and two injured. Injured soldiers have been evacuated.
