Veteran BJP leader and former Union Minister Chaman Lal Gupta who was ailing for quite some time breathed his last on Tuesday morning .
Chaman Lal Gupta, according to family sources, was ill for the past few months . His condition deteriorated this morning and he died at his residence in Gandhi Nagar, Jammu this morning.


He was a stalwart of Bhartiya Jan Sangh , which later emerged as Bhartiya Janta Party after the split of Janta Party . He was a powerful pro-Jammu voice in the state legislative Assembly to which he was elected a number of times before he was elected to Lok Sabha in 1996, 1998 and 1999 . He was minister for civil aviation and minister of state for defence in the Atal Behari Vajpayee Government.


He was also President and General Secretary of BJP for several terms and was always known for his pro-Jammu stance .
