Leh, 18 august, 2026: Senior Ladakhi leader Thupstan Chhewang and Adv. Tashi Gyalson recently called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and submitted a representation seeking a series of goodwill measures in the aftermath of the events of September 24, 2025.

The intervention comes at an important moment for Ladakh, where the events of September 24 have left a deep impact on families and communities. The representation seeks a sympathetic review and withdrawal of cases, where legally appropriate, along with compensation and welfare assistance for families who suffered loss or injury.

The leaders have also urged the administration to ensure the early completion of the judicial inquiry into the incident. A transparent and credible process is essential to establish facts, address legitimate concerns and strengthen public confidence.

Equally important is the appeal for the early resumption of dialogue on Ladakh’s broader political and constitutional concerns. Dialogue remains the most constructive way forward for addressing differences and finding solutions that take into account the aspirations and interests of the people of both Leh and Kargil.

The joint initiative by Chhewang and Gyalson carries significance beyond the immediate demands. It reflects the need to move from confrontation towards healing, reconciliation and constructive engagement.

Ladakh’s aspirations regarding constitutional safeguards, employment, land, culture, political representation and development require sustained engagement with the Union Government. At the same time, the region’s social harmony and unity must remain a collective priority.

Goodwill measures, support for affected families, a transparent judicial process and renewed political dialogue can together help create an atmosphere of trust. Justice and reconciliation need not be opposing objectives; both can move forward through due process and responsible leadership.

At this juncture, Ladakh needs a politics that brings people together rather than deepening divisions. The representation submitted by Thupstan Chhewang and Adv. Tashi Gyalson is therefore an important appeal to place the welfare of the people, peace and dialogue at the centre of the way forward for Ladakh.
