Srinagar, January 31 : The encroachers of less than 15maralas of land will soon eb given property rights , according to a senior BJP leader who recently met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha .
Sunil Sharma , BJP General Secretary , told JK News Today on phone that he has been assured the LG that all the poor who are in occupation of less than 15 marlas of land that is approximately 4000 feet would be allowed to retain after proper registry of the land . He also claimed that the Government would issue the orders to this effect very soon.
Sunil Sharma claimed that this assurance was given to him by L G Manoj Sinha when he had met the latter on January 27 and highlighted the issue. “ I had requested that all the poor who have small pieces of land and constricted houses should be spared of the demolition under the anti-encroachment drive.
The LG was quite responsive and he assured em that the poor would not be touched and a provision would be created to enable them to get the land registered in their name as per the revenue department’s protocol and procedure.”
Sunil Sharma was quite confident that the government would issue orders to this effect very soon/

These assurances to the BJP leader have come at a time when the anti-encroachment drive is going on all across the Union territory , in which the land and the properties of the influential people, including former ministers , have been reclaimed . The government ahs started demolishing structures on such pieces of land, which measure from 10 kanals ( 5400 feet) to 10 acres.
The government had announced that it had decided to get all the state land vacated of all encroachment. This order had created fears among the poor who said that they had been living on these pieces of land for generations . they had appealed the government not to go ahead with the drive and save them from being homeless.
