Jammu, June 18:

The  Government of India has convened an all-party meet on Kashmir  on 24th of this month to discuss  all matters concerning the Union Territory. It is going to be the first-ever all-party meeting between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and  leadership of Jammu and Kashmir   since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 .

The meeting has been convened to discuss the way forward for Jammu and Kashmir  as it is being understood by Delhi that it is  the time to  move forward  from the  state of affairs of J&K  where despite development picking up pace  , politically  things have refused to see a thaw , primarily because of the standoff between Kashmiri leadership  and the Centre  that had chosen two opposite side of the fence on the issues following August 5 , 2019 decisions and subsequent developments in J&K.

all the matters regarding Jammu and Kashmir, including the Delimitation Commission’s work and completion of its report, and participation of the parties in the elections to be held as a sequel to the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission  would be on the table.

The issue of the restoration of the statehood to J&K will also come up. Sources said though the Centre has agreed in principle to restore the statehood to  the UT of J&K, but whether it will concede this demand at the moment is not certain.

After having held a series of discussions through back channels, Delhi has now thought to make the things public, and convened the meeting  next Thursday ( June 24).

Sources said that the things had started clearing up after the People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration  led by former chief minister Farooq Abdullah had met at PDP president Mehbooba Mufti’s residence at Gupkar on  June 9 . Farooq had declared that the PAGD was “ open to talks  if invited.” Our doors are open ( for talks),” he had said.

Thereafter, the things picked up the speed.

Meanwhile , Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday held a meeting with Home Minister Amit shah in New Delhi .  A threadbare security review was undertaken and the development scenario was  also reviewed.
