Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari chairs comprehensive review meeting; party leaders present ground reports on constituency issues

Srinagar, June 19: Apni Party has voiced serious concern over the official neglect of Srinagar’s Chanapora constituency and urged the government to take immediate steps to address the constituency’s developmental shortcomings and the pressing issues and grievances affecting the public.
According to a press release issued here, Apni Party today convened a comprehensive review meeting on the Chanapora constituency. The meeting, chaired by the party president, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, focused on assessing the prevailing political scenario and deliberating on the key public issues, developmental concerns, and grievances affecting the constituency.
The meeting witnessed the participation of key party leaders and senior functionaries, including ward presidents, block and zonal heads, booth heads, and other grassroots-level representatives from the constituency.
On the occasion, the participants held a detailed discussion on the prevailing political scenario, the key public issues and concerns in the constituency, as well as various organisational matters.
They also apprised Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari of the persistent public grievances and the lack of adequate development in the constituency, highlighting the urgent need for remedial measures to address these concerns.
During the detailed meeting, the public issues in the constituency were raised. These included the lack of adequate infrastructure and the shortage of professional staff at Chanapora Hospital and various dispensaries across the area.
Concern was also expressed over the poor condition of public parks, which continue to suffer from official neglect. Participants highlighted the incomplete construction of marriage halls at Badshah Nagar and Natipora, besides drawing attention to the closure of the multipurpose hall in Mehjoor Nagar.
The deteriorating condition of roads and link roads, coupled with an inadequate drainage system across the constituency, also figured prominently in the discussions. The issue of insufficient ration quotas for residents was brought to the fore, with participants pointing out that many poor and marginalized families have yet to be included under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) category, thereby depriving them of essential food security benefits.
The participants also raised concerns over the lack of street lighting and safe drinking water facilities in several areas of the constituency.
During the meeting, it was alleged that the government is discriminating on political grounds while selecting areas for the macadamisation of roads and lanes, as well as for the construction of drainage systems.
One of the major issues highlighted was the worsening traffic situation in the constituency. The frequent traffic jams consume valuable time and cause immense inconvenience to commuters, including students, office-goers, and tourists.
The participants stressed the need for an underpass near Hyderpora. They said the massive traffic congestion here causes commuters, including tourists, to lose two to three hours daily.
They also pointed out that the stretch from Sanat Nagar Chowk to Rangreth via Rawalpora witnesses massive traffic congestion on a daily basis. They demanded the implementation of the proposed four-lane project to ensure smooth traffic flow. As an immediate measure, they called for an effective traffic management plan to ease congestion.
The participants further noted that commuters travelling from the flyover near Rambagh towards Chanapora face severe traffic jams every day. The congestion often results in delays of two to three hours, causing significant hardship to the public.
The participants said that the period from 2014 to 2018 was a golden era for the constituency, marked by significant development and progress across various sectors.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the party strongly urged the government to take immediate and necessary measures to address all the public issues and concerns within a month. It cautioned that if concrete action is not taken within the stipulated period, the people would be compelled to launch protests to assert their rights and press for the resolution of their grievances.
