On the eve of the completion of 100 days of ceasefire on the Line of Control between Indian and Pakistan armies , the Indian Army chief Gen. M M Naravane visited the hinterland units in Kashmir where he was told that how the local recruitment and radicalization were being tackled.
Gen. Naravane , who was accompanied by Northern Command chief Gen. Y K Joshi and Chinar Corps Commander Lt. Gen. D P Pandey, was informed that two – pronged strategy was at work.- targeting of the overground workers who were engaged in polluting the minds of the youth and drawing them towards radicalism and militancy . At the same time there was a reach out to families of the youth in the vulnerable age group to keep their children off militancy . The power of persuasion was at work.
The army chief underlined the commitment of the Indian army to keep youth of Kashmir safe from ill-effects of militancy so that they can secure their future comfortably in a peaceful atmosphere.
He also had a detailed interaction with the commanders about the real-time status of the ceasefire on the LoC . The ceasefire of November 26, 2003, was reinstated on February 25 this year following a joint statement of the Director General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan.
The LoC was quiet , he was told . There had been no incident of ceasefire violation along the LoC since the February 25, 2021 and it was a healthy sign, but the vigil remains as high as ever.
A defence spokesperson said the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is on a two-day visit to Kashmir to review the prevailing security situation in the UT.

“While interacting with troops, the COAS expressed his appreciation to the jawans and commanders who are relentlessly battling the dual challenges of Pakistan abetted terror and the global pandemic. He further reinforced the need to be prepared to meet emerging security challenges effectively. Later, the COAS was briefed by the Chinar Corps Commander on the overall situation pertaining to the Line of Control and the hinterland.”

The Army Chief complimented the excellent synergy exhibited by all sections of the Civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces and other Security agencies in projecting a ‘Whole of Government’ approach that has resulted in improvement in the security situation conducive for fostering a new era of development in the UT.

In the evening, the COAS called on the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan and discussed the emerging challenges and road map for long term peace in J&K. The LG appreciated the role played by the Indian Army in restoring and preserving peace in the UT and providing aid to the civil authorities against the COVID 19 pandemic.
