Sidhra, has achieved yet another milestone by successfully conducting minimally invasive reconstruction of medial knee ligament (MPFL).
Orthopaedic department of ASCOMS & Hospital led by Prof. Rajesh Gupta,
Head of the department successfully reconstructed the ligament in a 18 year old female patient with history of multiple episodes of dislocation of Patella (Knee Cap) Bone.
The department has been performing Arthroscopic surgeries of Knee shoulder and ankle joint from many years. The surgery has been performed with use of minimal orthopaedic implant.
Prof. Gupta informed that a young female had dislocated her patella about 6 years back and had multiple episodes of dislocation, since then the patient was unable to perform her activities due to apprehension and instability.
“We did reconstruction by using semitendinosus  graft of same knee. Two holes were drilled in the Patella and graft passed through Patella. Finally graft was fixed in femur bone using special screws. The patient was able to walk with support on next day, Prof. Gupta informed”.
Dr. Pavan Malhotra, Director Principal, ASCOMS & Hospital said that
orthopaedic department has been regularly conducting ligament surgeries around knee and shoulder with excellent out come. This a step towards helping people of Jammu in such a way that going out of J&K will be minimized as highly specialized orthopaedic treatment is now available at the door step in Jammu only.


MPFL reconstruction through this technique is being performed in our Hospital. The surgery was performed by a team headed by Prof. Rajesh Gupta, orthopaedic and sports injury specialist and Dr. Shafiq Hackla, Assistant Professor assisted by Dr. Nitish Sharma and Dr. Sunny Sharma. Prof. Gupta who is an expert in the field of orthopaedic sports injury and joint replacement said that department is well equippedand regularly conducting these wide spectrum of surgeries.
