Atishi, the AAP MLA from Kalkaji in Delhi has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Atishi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Kalkaji in Delhi has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. This development comes a day after Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain was tested for Covid-19 and his samples returned negative.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s daily bulletin, the number of confirmed cases of infection in Delhi stands at 44,688. Out of these, 26,351 have been identified as active cases as of June 17 in addition to 16,500 recoveries and 1,837 coronavirus-related deaths.

Earlier this week, Home Minister Amit Shah held a series of meetings with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, LG Anil Baijal, the mayors of the three municipal corporations and top officials of the MoHFW and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Home Minister also visited the state-run Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital and interacted with frontline workers.

Delhi government along with the Centre is working to increase the testing capacity in Delhi along with the number of hospital beds available. For this purpose, banquet halls in the national capital have been converted into isolation/quarantine facilities.
