Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad made a much-awaited announcement of his party ,” Democratic Azad Party”, and also unfurled flag of the new party at a crowded press conference in Jammu on Monday afternoon , to relaunch his political career under new banner weeks after snapping his 50-year-long association with Congress.

It was a coincidence that Azad launched the new party on Monday- September 26 , exactly a month after he had quit Congress on August 26. This , he explained was due to the auspicious start of Navratris – the beginning of holy days in Hindu calendar .
This new party , he said, denotes full democracy, wherein every one will have full rights to express , and it would be independent in its thoughts and expressions, uninfluenced by ideology and political line of other parties or leaders .
Azad’s announcement of the party , and then unfurling of the tricolour of the party- Mustard – for creativity , White for Peace , and Blue for vastness of the thinking and imagination . This , he said would define the new horizons that the party wants to touch and involve young and old in it .
Throughout his press conference, Azad stressed the need to bring the regions of Kashmir and Jammu close to each other. He said that all the artificial walls that have come up between the people’s of the two regions need to be demolished forthwith .
