BSF Jammu- A glance of its ops achievements and border population welfare programmes duringthe year -2021

Being the first line of defence on the Pakistan and Bangladesh Borders, BSF is dominating the International Border relentlessly. Frontier Hq BSF Jammu is manning about 192 km of International Border with Pakistan and also deployed on Line of Control alongwith Indian Army in Naushera/ Rajouri and  Poonch sector.

BSF Jammu has performed exceptionally with strict vigil and made remarkable achievements in the Year 2021. Despite deployment in hostile area as well as sensitive and hyper sensitive scenarios, BSF has always stood up to the challenges with aplomb. 

As a result of robust domination and surveillance on International Border, there has been continued peace on the Jammu IB. BSF Jammu has relentlessly carried out anti-tunnel drives along IB and due to its efforts it was able to detect two tunnels on International Border in the month of January 2021and made a huge dent to the infiltration attempts by ANEs from Pakistan. Detection of these tunnels also exposed the nefarious designs of Pakistan based terrorists/smugglers. Hence, Jammu IB remained peaceful as a consequence of strong dominance and surveillance of BSF.

Speaking on the occasion Sh D K Boora, IG FTR said that the last year has been ‘Achievement Oriented’ with detection of tunnels and seizure of huge caches of Arms, Amn and Narcotics. The aim of ANEs to spread disharmony by carrying out nefarious activities stands thwarted. He also added that BSF is fully prepared and has augmented its resources to rise upto the challenges in 2022. He further said that BSF Jammu has been dedicatedly participating in relief work during COVID-19 pandemic and always endeavored to help the needy during difficult times. Operational Achievements during the year                                     

The ever vigilant troops of BSF were also able to neutralize one Pakistani smuggler who was trying to smuggle a consignment of narcotics from Kathua border wherein BSF seized about 27.225 Kgs of narcotics. Apart from this, BSF troops also seized about 10.935 Kgs of narcotics from Akhnoor, alongwith Rs. 2,75,000/- FICN. Keeping continued vigil BSF was able to neutralize 06 intruders and  apprehend 03 Pakistani intruders* who were trying to infiltrate through the IB from January 2021 till date.

In the beginning of 2022, alert BSF troops once again scuttled a major bid of ANEs by recovering 4.950 kg narcotics and a consignment of Arms & Amn on International border in Arnia Sector. Details of recovery are as under:-

Apart from performing exceptionally well on the  operational front, BSF Jammu Frontier has also been in the forefront in assisting border population through various initiatives.

 War against COVID-19 Pandemic                              

BSF Battalions were always in the forefront in providing medical help and assistance during COVID-19 pandemic to the border population. COVID-19 prevention related medical items, face masks and sanitisers were distributed to the border population by BSF. Awareness programmes related to COVID-19 were also organized by all Battalions from time to time to spread awareness about COVID-19.As a result, COVID-19 was managed very well by BSF in the Border area. During vaccination drive, total 17482 doses in first and 17469 doses in second phase were administered to border men. Apart from this a total of 4772 Booster doses  were also provided to BSF personnel till date. Vaccination of children as per Govt. guidelines has also started in Jammu Ftr Hq Hospital.                                 

 Medical Camp/ Blood Donation Camps/Civic Action Programme.                         

During the year, coordination with villagers and BSF has been quite close and friendly. Several Civic Action programmes, catering to the needs of border population were conducted by BSF Battalions, wherein 18 medical camps , 03 Blood donation camps and 15 civic action programmes were organized in which medicines and medical equipment such as Hearing aid machines, Walkers, Crutch aid, Walker Sticks and Spectacles were distributed among the border population by which a large number of border people benefitted. Under the Civic Action programmes, Sports items, medical equipment were also provided. During the lockdown period, in association  with civil administration, Border Security Force distributed packed food items to needy people regularly. Following medical aids were distributed by BSF during the year.

 Village Coordination Meetings                             

 Around 86 Coordination meetings with public representative and villagers were also conducted by BSF during the period for better coordination to resolve problems of the border population. With the initiative of BSF Jammu farmers commenced farming ahead of Border fencing after a decade which is a remarkable achievement by BSF. Presently in R. S.Pura, Samba and Abdullia areas, border farmers are cultivating their land ahead of border fencing. BSF Jammu has continuously been encouraging farmers to cultivate their land ahead of border fence alongwith assistance from UT Government by providing round the clock security cover to them.                                     

 Drone Awareness Programmes

Drone activities by counterpart has become a real cause of concern in border areas as many Drone droppings have been reported. The border population has been made aware of Drone activities carried out by Pak based ANE’s by organizing around 144 Drone awareness Programmes. Live demonstration were shown on dropping of consignments by Drone and various flex boards were also displayed in villages & Schools to spread awareness & enhance coordination and understanding among border population to foil and report any suspicious drone activities in border area.                                     

 Confidence Building Measures with Counterpart                       

Continuous endeavor has been done by this frontier to create maintain peace and tranquility on International Border and to develop better coordination between both border guarding forces. Two sector commander and one commandant level meetings were organized on International Border with counterpart to discuss all border issues.

On 2nd October 2021 a retreat ceremony at BOP Octroi was inaugurated by Hon’ble Sh Manoj Sinha, Lt. Governor, J&K (UT) to provide a boost to tourism in the border area. Since then, it has become a major attraction for tourism with tourists footfalls have been increasing by the   day.

 Training/ Sports Achievements                                       

 BSF Jammu has always been at forefront to encourage Sports/Training events which enhance the professionalism of our border men. Frontier Hq Jammu has performed creditably and attained the following positions in Inter Ftr Competitions as given below:-
