Jammu, October 21: A Border Security Force (BSF) personnel got injured when Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked firing on BSF patrolling party on Bobiyan Border Out Post (BOP) in Hiranagar sector if Kathua district.
The injured BSF man was identified as Gurnam Singh of 173 battalion, a resident of Indira Nagar Jammu.
Singh has received a bullet injury on his head and was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for treatment.
After the incident, BSF retaliated the fire and it continues till the last report came in.
Giving details, Inspector General BSF Jammu frontiers, D K Upadhyay confirmed to JKNT that one person has received injury. “We have given befitting reply and there is heavy damage on their side,” he said.
“As per our information minimum 4- 5 personnel have been killed on their side,” Upadhyay added.
This is the first ceasefire violation on IB since surgical strikes by Indian Army inside Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) on September 28 in which more than 35 militants were killed on launch pads. Since then situation on Line of Control (LoC) had deteriorated and ceasefire violations have been taking place every now and then.
IB so far had remained peaceful but first yesterday BSF foiled an infiltration attempt when five to six militants had tried to infiltrate in Hiranagar sector and now Rangers have led to ceasefire violation.
