Srinagar, June 7:
The Centre is all set to extend the Ramzan ceasefire until August- end , according to highly placed sources.
The ceasefire that was to come to an end on June 15&16, depending on which day Eid ul Fitr falls , will now be extended till August 31st covering the entire period of this year’s Amarnath Yatra – June 28 to August 26.
The idea is not to give any chance to militants and the political parties to cause trouble during the Yatra period.
Sources said that this would be announced on the eve of Eid so that there is no gap in the ceasefire for Ramzan and that of Yatra.
It is a critical decision but it has been taken because the Centre is disinclined to give any impression that it was expecting any instant results during the 30- day ceasefire announced on May 16.
Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has said that the extension of ceasefire is must for giving relief to the common people .
