The Central government has notified the appointment of Justice Rajesh Bindal as the acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court.The appointment was made in view of the impending retirement of present Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan who will demit office on April 28, 2021.

Justice Bindal will assume charge from April 29.Justice Bindal hails from Punjab & Haryana High Court where he was appointed judge in 2006. He was appointed as the acting Chief Justice of the Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh on December 8, 2020.

Later, he was transferred to the Calcutta High Court on January 5, 2021.

Justice Radhakrishnan hails from Kerala High Court and served as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court from where he was transferred to the Calcutta High Court where he has been serving as Chief Justice from April 4, 2019.
