SRINAGAR, MAY 15:

The Department Related Standing Committee-(DRSC-III) of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today reviewed the overall functioning of the Home Department at a meeting held here under the chairmanship of MLC, Surinder Choudhary.

Legislators, Showkat Hussain Ganai, Thakur Balbir Singh, S Charanjeet Singh and Firdous Ahmed Tak,Principal Secretary Home Department, R K Goyal, Special DGP Hqs, V K Singh, ADGP (AP), A K Choudhary, ADGP (Security), Munir Khan, IG Headquarters, Anand Jain, Special Secretary Legislative Council, Mohammad Ashraf Wani and other senior officers of Police and Council Secretariat attended the meeting.

The issues which were prominently figured in today’s meeting included, transfer policy for SPOs, drivers, hike of their wages, improving other facilities so that they can perform their duties more efficiently. The Committee opined that the SPOs and drivers are performing their security related duties in tough conditions and they deserve some encouragement by way of providing them suitable monitoring benefits, besides launching other welfare measures for them and their families.

The Committee sought details relating to the welfare schemes for the orphans, widows of police personnel, details of Police Melas and revenue collected there from during the past five years and utilization of funds so collected from the events, details regarding mode of selection of awarding gallantry awards to the jawans, rehabilitation policy for drug addicts and measures taken to control the menace.  The information was also sought with regard to the fabrication of police vehicles as Bullet Proof & criteria adopted thereof, details regarding purchase of uniforms, BP Jackets for police jawans, criterion for establishing new police stations at Leh & Kargil, position of manpower deployed with retired police officers and measures put in place to check road accidents, especially on National Highways across the State.

The Committee called for paying focused attention to improve the working conditions for the jawans, PSOs and drivers, besides appropriate measures to make the police force more professional and people friendly
