PK had lower opening day figures than Dangal, and therefore, Sultan as well. PK had grossed Rs 26.63 on Day 1

Aamir Khan’s Dangal has grossed Rs 29.78 crores on Day 1 in the domestic box office, making it the second highest box office opener on 2016. The first position s coveted by, of course, Salman Khan’s Sultan that got Rs 36.54 crores on day 1. However it easily beat Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN which got around Rs 19 crores and MS Dhoni: The Untold Story which collected around Rs 21 crores. However, with the strong reviews and word of mouth publicity, we are sure Dangal will get better collections over the weekend, and could beat Salman Khan’s Sultan in the long run.

Another interesting point to not that the biggest grosser of all time, which is an Aamir Khan movie as well, PK had lower opening day figures than Dangal, and therefore, Sultan as well. PK had grossed Rs 26.63 on Day 1, but scored more in the long run. So the makers of Dangal can take heart in the fact that with the strong buzz, great reviews and Aamir Khan‘s star power, along with the fact that there is no big Bollywood movie in the couple of weeks ahead, the movie will collect some great figures.  If you have forgotten this, the year in which PK was released, 2014, the highest box office opener of that year was Shah Rukh Khan’s Happy New Year with around Rs 44 crores.

Two big contributing factors that made Dangal score less than Salman Khan’s Sultan is the fact that Salman Khan’s movie has been released during Eid. There is another factor that the country is currently going through demonetisation crisis, so therefore not many are in the mood to watch a movie in these times. There was also a hashtag, #BoycottDangal trending on Twitter, as there are certain people who still have not forgiven Aamir Khan over his intolerance comments.

So have you seen Dangal? Do you think it can beat Sultan and PK in the long run?
