On Labour Day, the dedication of Mr Anayatullah (fondly called Tulla) was handsomely recognised and commended by Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command. Mr Anayatullah was awarded the General Officer Commanding in Chief, Northern Command’s Commendation Card.
Mr Anayatullah, a specially abled person being deaf and dumb, is the leading dozer driver responsible for opening of road Srinagar – Zojila. Winter snow piles upto 30 feet at many places on this road. Due to heavy snow fall during winters, the road alignment totally disappears making snow clearance extremely difficult. Although he is specially-abled, using his instincts and mental faculties Mr Anayatullah leads the efforts to clear the snow and rediscover the road alignment every year.
The Srinagar-Zojila- Leh Road in addition to being the strategic lifeline, is also the main artery for major economic activities and tourism in Kashmir and Leh. During the official road opening ceremony at Zojila three days back, Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, Chinar Corps Commander had acknowledged and promised recognition of Mr Anayatullah’s dedication, commitment and resoluteness.
