Directs officers to intensify operations against terrorists/terror support system

Srinagar, September 18:  

Director General of Police Dilbag Singh today visited Kulgam in South Kashmir and Handwara, Kupwara in North Kashmir. He led officers/relatives in paying floral tributes to martyr Bantu Sharma at Kulgam and in the afternoon visited the family of martyr SI Arshid Ahmad Mir at Handwara. He also chaired officers meetings to review the security situation in these districts.

Accompanied by IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, DGP J&K first visit Kulgam where he led senior officers of police, Army/CAPFs and civil administration and relatives of the martyr in paying rich tributes to the martyr at a wreath laying ceremony held at DPL Kulgam. Floral wreaths were laid on the mortal remains for his supreme sacrifice made in the line of duty. He later chaired officer meeting there.

DIG South Kashmir Range, Abdul Jabbar, I/C SSP Kulgam, Majid Malik, CO 34 RR Col Saket, CO 18 Bn CRPF Gopal Singh, DC Kulgam Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, ASP Kulgam Zulfkar Shaheen,  and senior officers of JKP, Army, CAPF, relatives of the martyr attended the wreath laying ceremony.

In the afternoon, the DGP visited family of martyr sub inspector Arshad Ahmad Mir and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the fallen hero who gave supreme sacrifice of his life while on duty. While interacting with the family of the martyr he said that the whole Police Pariwar stands with the bereaved family of martyr and shares their grief and sorrow. He assured that every support would be provided to the family. A large number of people from the village who had come to condole the death of SI Arshad Ahmad interacted with the DGP and praised the Martyr for his people friendly conduct and helping nature to everyone.

The DGP was accompanied by IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar, DIG North Kashmir Range, Shri Sujit Kumar, SSP Kupwara Dr GV Sandeep and senior officers of Kupwara and Handwara.

The DGP while chairing security review meetings at Kulgam and Kupwara, directed the officers to keep a strict watch on the suspicious elements/OGWs who are providing any kind of support to terrorist activities. He directed the officers to revisit the security plans as terrorists in order to create disturbance are looking for soft targets and stressed for counter strategies and preventive measures. He emphasized upon the officers to remain extra alert and ordered a series of counter measures to prevent the yesterday like unfortunate incidents.

Singh said that protecting the lives of people is our prime concern and every attempt of the anti-national elements to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the UT would be dealt with firmly. He directed the officers to intensify the operations against terrorists/ terror support network and stressed that terrorists involved in the yesterday killings should be brought to justice very soon. The DGP directed the officers to augment the security of vulnerable targets and places. He emphasized for putting in use the latest technology in monitoring the movement of suspicious elements.

Singh reiterated the importance of maintaining close synergy between the J&K Police and other agencies to meet the security challenges in the UT. He said that killing of infiltrators in the recent past at various borders areas are the indicators that Pakistan and its agencies are making continuous attempts to disturb peace by pushing terrorists here and stressed upon the offices to maintain alertness on the borders and the hinterland to check the movement of anti-peace elements.

During the meetings the officers briefed the DGP regarding the counter measures in response to the present security scenario and strategies to track down the terrorists in their respective districts.

The meeting at Kupwara was attended by DIG North Kashmir Range, Sujit Kumar, DIG BSF North Kashmir AK Vidyarthi, CO 98 Bn CRPF Ashok Kumar, CO 62 BN CRPF Vinod Kumar, CO IR 4th Bn Abrar choudhary and other jurisdictional officers of District Kupwara.
