 Srinagar, September 6:

 The Jammu and Kashmir Government on  Thursday night transferred the Director General of Police  Shesh Paul Vaid and replaced him with   DG Prisons  Dilbag Singh.

In a late night development,  the State Home Department  issued an order  saying that Vaid  has been transferred and his services placed at the  disposal of the General Administration Department (GAD) for further posting as Transport Commissioner.

Vaid has been replaced by 1987 batch IPS officer Dilbag Singh, currently holding the position of  Director General of Prisons. The order said that  Singh will hold the charge of the post of  DGP in addition to his  own duties till a regular  arrangement is made.

Vaid,  a 1986 batch IPS officer  of J&K cadre was son of the  soil. He belonged to Jammu region  of Jammu and Kashmir.

While Dilbag Singh belongs to Punjab. He is the second officer from Punjab in the recent decades to have become the police chief in the State.

Earlier, Gurbachan Jagat had held the position from 1997 to 2001 .
