Director Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare Department Jammu, K.K. Sharma on Friday flagged off Information, Education & Communication (IEC) Van to mark the celebration of Crop Insurance Week in order to aware and ensure maximum enrolment of the farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal BimaYojna during Kharif 2022-23.


The campaign is being started by IFFCO TOKIO & RELIANCE insurance companies in active collaboration with the Agriculture Department Jammu under PMFBY.


Speaking on the occasion, the Director said that the campaign will continue till 7th of July with the aim to register maximum number of farmers of all Panchayats of Jammu, Udhampur and Samba districts.


The on-ground and digital initiatives will explain the farmers about basics of the scheme such as how to enroll in the scheme with the portal, CFCs, Insurance Companies, Banks, how to claim insurance under various circumstances, grievance redressal and reporting crop loss. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is intended to provide insurance coverage and financial support to the farmers in event of any failure of any of the notified crop as a result of natural calamities, pests and diseases moreover to ensure flow of credit to agricultural sector, he added.


He said that two notified crops paddy and maize are covered under the crop insurance scheme for Kharif season with the premium of Rs.100 and Rs. 80 per kanal respectively and the cutoff date to opt the scheme is 15th of July 2022 on voluntary basis. He added that this will mitigate the financial risk of the farmers facing crop losses and aid in stabilizing the farmer’s income. He stressed on coverage of loanee (KCC Holders) as well as non loanee farmers under the said scheme.


He emphasized that farmers should voluntarily come forward to enroll and get maximum benefits of farmers welfare schemes intended for the betterment of farming community.


Besides other, Joint Director (Marketing) Mahesh Verma, Joint Director (Mushroom/Apiculture) R.K. Hitaishi, Joint Director (Extension) Subash Sharma, Joint Director (SLUB/FARMS) Vijay Kumar Upadhya, Deputy Director (C) Vivek Kohli, CAO Jammu Arvind Baru, Agriculture Chemist Jammu Aman Jyoti Sharma, Agronomist J.C. Raina, Assistant Soil Chemist Neeraj Rajwal, SMS-II Vikas Koshal, Assistant Botanist Ambika Rani, State Heads IFFCO TOKIO & RELIANCE Mahavir Rawat, Subham Paliwal and other officials of the Department were also present on the occasion.
