New Delhi, August 1:

Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain has said Delhi’s doubling rate of coronavirus cases has now gone up to 50 while across India it is 21 days. Delhi has reported 1,195 new coronavirus cases on Friday while the total stands at 1.35 lakh in the national capital.

The health minister has said, “1,195 cases came on Friday and the total is at 1,35,598 cases in Delhi. Delhi’s number of active cases are at 10,705. Delhi’s active coronavirus case count has now gone down to rank 12 among all states. Delhi earlier ranked number 2 among all states in India.”

Delhi now has 496 containment zones as the next round of serological survey to trace cases will start on Saturday.

The minister further said, “Serological Survey for Covid-19 will start from Saturday in Delhi. In the last survey, 24% people were positive. This is a very technical process but will be conducted across the capital.”

“Hotels at places bordering Delhi such as Noida, Ghaziabad and Haryana are open. Covid-19 cases are decreasing in Delhi, however, in these places cases are increasing. It would have been better if L-G would have given the permission,” said Satyendar Jain.

India has reported over 57,000 new coronavirus cases, taking the total to over 17 lakh cases. India’s coronavirus death toll has crossed 36,500.

Satyendar Jain had on July 22 announced that after analysing the results of the last sero survey, it was decided that more such exercises would be undertaken every month to formulate better policies for tackling the Covid-19 situation in Delhi.

The health department has prepared a detailed plan under which every district medical officer has been asked to conduct the survey in their respective jurisdictions.
