Jammu, March 24: Since the National Medical Council (NMC) has announced to start first batch of 100 MBBS students each in new Medical colleges of Udhampur and Handwara, authorities have geared up to ensure things are put in place ahead of time.

In this regard, Director Coordination new medical colleges Dr. Yashpal Sharma today visited construction site of GMC Udhampur.

He held a meeting with faculty and residents of make shift venue of the college and associated hospital. The meeting was attended by GMC Udhampur principal Dr. Mritunjay, medical superintendent of associated hospital, principal nursing college and other officers and officials.

In 2014, the then UPA government had announced five new medical colleges for Jammu and Kashmir and during Narendra Modi led NDA government, things started to move classes also started in all the five new colleges.

After that Jammu and Kashmir government approved creation of two more medical colleges for Udhampur and Handwara with an aim to provide better health facilities for people at their doorsteps. In July 2022, J&K administrative council accorded approval for establishment of these two new medical colleges.

Now, when NMC announced that first batch of 100 students each will begin from next academic session, Jammu and Kashmir government wants to make it happen as soon as possible.
