Jammu, July 13:Farooq Khan has been appointed as new Advisor to Governor.

1994 batch IPS officer, Farooq Khan retired from service as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Jammu and Kashmir Police in 2013 and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before 2014 General election during a BJP’s political rally at Hiranagar in Kathua in March 2014. He hails from Jammu and played a major role in anti-militancy operations in the state before his retirement.

Khan was also in-charge of BJP Minority Morcha and BJP’s affairs in farthest North-Eastern state of Nagaland.

Farooq Khan was earlier Jammu and Kashmir BJP spokesperson.

Farooq Khan is a former IPS, who led to the clearing of the Hazratbal Shrine in March 1996 in which 18 militants were killed was the mind behind creation of Task Force wing of JKP.

It was under Khan that Raghunath Temple, Jammu was freed from militants in 2003. He has been also awarded with the President’s medals for gallantry, bravery and distinguished service.

Farooq Khan is a Dogri-speaking Muslim of the Jammu and Kashmir.His grandfather, Colonel Peer Mohammad, was the first state president of the Jammu and Kashmir Jana Sangh and was in Last Dogra ruler, Hari Singh’s army who had a major contribution in the 1947 happenings in Jammu.

The State had come under Governor’s rule on June 20, 2018, a day after the BJP had withdrawn support to the PDP-led Mehbooba Mufti government on June 19.

Satya Pal Malik took over as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on August 23, 2018. Presently, Governor Satya Pal Malik has four advisers, K Vijay Kumar, KK Sharma,  K Skandan and Khurshid Ganai.
