National Conference President Farooq Abdullah follow through on the Gupkar Declaration of August 4 last year , that now from defending the special status of J&K state has been transformed into restoration of the Article 370 and attendant features specially allocated to the state that has now been divided into the two Union Territories.
Addressing a first formal press conference after meeting the four senior leaders of his party, including General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, former ministers Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri , and Nasir Aslam Wani , at his residence in Gupkar , Farooq said it quite emphatically that ,” Gupkar declaration is our core”. He dismissed all suggestions that there has been any dilution in the stand of the party on the issue, despite the Centre having undone everything that was contained in the Gupkar Declaration on August 5, 2019.
The Gupkar declaration was signed by all parties of Kashmir that had pledged to safeguard special status of the J&K state and its integrity. The J&K until August 5 last year had its on constitution and flag and a legislature that had powers to resist application of the Central laws .
However, on August 5,2019, the Centre did away with the special status, and also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories of Ladakh and UT.
Farooq said the strategy to implement the Gupkar Declaration would be devised once all the leaders detained at the moment are set free.
