JAMMU, Sept 29: Four CISF personnel, including an Assistant Commandant and a Sub-Inspector, lost their lives after a firing incident at a CISF camp at the Sewa-II Hydroelectric Power Project in Mashka, Basohli, in Kathua district on Tuesday.
The incident reportedly took place after a dispute broke out among personnel stationed at the camp. Preliminary information suggests that the argument escalated into a physical confrontation, following which shots were fired inside the premises.
The four personnel were initially injured and were taken to an NHPC hospital located on the Himachal Pradesh side for treatment. They subsequently succumbed to their injuries, according to preliminary reports.
The deceased have been identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Rafiq Ahmed and Constable Sandeep Kumar.
A CISF Head Constable, who has been identified as the suspected shooter, was taken into custody by the police following the incident. Officials said the personnel allegedly used his service weapon during the firing.
Following the incident, police and security officials reached the power project and began examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The exact cause of the altercation, the sequence of events and the motive behind the firing are yet to be established.
The Sewa-II Power Station at Mashka in Basohli is an NHPC-operated hydroelectric project situated in Kathua district.
