Jammu, August 31:

 Chinese troops  launched an assault to change the status quo at the LAC near  Southern bank of Pangong Tso  on the intervening night of August 29/ 30 . It was resisted by the  Indian troops , this was a second major clash between the two sides after the June 15/16   violent clashes in Galwan Valley  in eastern Ladakh that left 20 Indian soldiers dead and undisclosed number of casualties .

According to a release posted on the  Twitter , the ministry of Defence said on Monday morning , The defence ministry said, “On the night of 29/30 August 2020, PLA troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during the ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo.”

“Indian troops pre-empted this PLA activity on the southern bank of Pangong Tso Lake, undertook measures to strengthen our positions and thwart Chinese intentions to unilaterally change facts on ground,” the Ministry of Defence statement read.

A brigade commander flag-level meet is currently on.
