Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has been issued a certificate to Government Medical College Jammu for performing Renal Transplantations in the UT of J&K under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act & Tissues Act 1994 which is valid for a period of 5 years.

Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal and Dean GMC Jammu congratulated all the Departments involved in the transplantation programme on this milestone. She said by establishing first renal transplantation center in Jammu it will be easy for our people to get transplants who are suffering from Chronic Kidney disease (CKD)
in their homeland and doesn’t require them to wait for long and to travel outside the UT.

Dr. Elias Sharma , HoD Urology said that we are well prepared to start Renal transplantation in the institution and it is expected to start in the coming weeks after final preparation.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Renal Transplant centre at SSH including facilities in the allied Departments like Nephrology, Anaesthesia, Lab Services Departments etc. were inspected by the team from DGHS in ending March 2022.
