Srinagar , September 6:

Governor Satya Pal Malik may soon call an all party meet to work out a consensus  on their participation in the  Urban Local Bodies and  Panchayat  elections  scheduled to be held  from the beginning of the next month.

Informed sources said that the Governor finds  this suggestion of the People’s Democratic Party  as worth consideration and implementation before going ahead with the proposal of the polls for the grassroots democratic institutions in the State for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a commitment from the ramparts of Red Fort during the course of his speech on Independence Day.

The Governor, it is learnt after talking to his advisors and Chief Secretary   as also consultations with the Centre will seek cooperation of all the parties at an all party meeting to be called soon . The meeting may take place in a week’s time, the sources said.

Malik, a veteran politician , who has started the public contact programme from the day one of his assuming the office on August 23rd , is keen to involve the political groups and other stake holders in reviving the process  of having elected Panchayats and urban local bodies polls.

Malk, however, was surprised with the announcement of  National Conference president Farooq  Abdullah on Wednesday about his party’s decision to boycott the polls if the Government of  India and the State government did not clarify their stand on Article 35 A.

“ The matter is in the court and it has to be decided there , we cannot  take a decision on our own ,” a senior officer of the Government of India told JK News Today.
