Chief Electoral Officer J&K , Shantmanu, has told Governor N N Vohra that the panchayat elections will depend on the preparation of the government , while his own electoral rolls would get updated by January 14.
Similarly, he has stated that the parliamentary bye-election to Anantnag and Srinagar parliamentary constituency would be held in April.
Vohra had recently assented the panchayat (amendment) bill thus clearing decks for the panchayat elections , which the Governor had been insisting should be held earliest possible .
In Kashmir holding of panchayat elections will depend upon law and order situation . This situation has shown some improvement but it cannot be called a risk-free situation for the crucial elections .
