Srinagar, May 25: Since there have been allegations of inmates of jails in J&K using mobile phone system to communicate outside, the union territory government has decided to install harmonious call blocking system in all 14 jails across J&K.

The Home Department has decided to install this system which will block unauthorised 2G, 3G and 4G system and in future it will be suitable for blocking 5G system as well.

This project is expected to cost government Rs 21.26 crore, out of which, Rs 19.04 crore is one time cost and Rs 1.76 crore is recurring cost per annum on account of rent to passive infrastructure providers @Rs 26000 per telecom service provider(TSP) per month per tower-HCBS) and Rs 0.56 crore on account of annual maintenance charge @ Rs 1 lakh per TSP per annum.

Once this system is put in place, all the unathorised incoming and outgoing calls, SMS and data services will be blocked.
