New Delhi, October 12:

India on Monday entered a week that will see cinema halls and schools open for the first time since March, when the first nationwide Covid-19 lockdown was announced. In its guidelines for the fifth phase of nationwide unlock, the Union home ministry had given permission for theatres, schools, swimming pools etc. to open from October 15.

Earlier, on Sunday, India became only the second country after the United States to register over seven million cases of coronavirus, with 74,383 new infections between Saturday and Sunday, as per the Union health ministry’s dashboard. Globally, the United States continues to be the worst-hit country, followed by India and Brazil, respectively, as per worldometers. Russia, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, Peru, Mexico and France complete the list of top ten worst-hit countries.
