New Delhi, October 21:

India has continued its downward trajectory of new single-day Covid-19 cases as it recorded under 50,000 new infections between Monday and Tuesday, the first time it has done so since July-end, the Union health ministry said. With 46,790 cases, India’s virus tally reached 7,597,063. The ministry also said 64% of India’s current active cases were from six states, while nearly 50%–49.87%–were from three states: Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala.

Also on the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation ahead of the upcoming festive season, urging people not to let the guard down even as the country is witnessing a gradual fall in its new daily coronavirus cases. This was PM Modi’s seven address to the nation during the pandemic season. Maharashtra, meanwhile, remains the worst-hit state, followed by Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, with Kerala overtaking Delhi as sixth worst-hit.
