Coronavirus in India: Tamil Nadu has reported 1,091 new Covid-19 cases while Rajasthan reported at least 291.

New Delhi, June 2:

The total number of novel coronavirus cases in India crossed the 2 lakh-mark today as new cases continue to pile up in the country. According to the Covid-19 bulletin put out by the Union health ministry today morning, as of 8am India had a total of 1,98,706. However, this figure has now crossed the 2 lakh-mark with some states releasing their updated tally. The Centre will account these cases in its morning bulletin tomorrow.

According to a state-wise tally complied by IndiaToday.in (as of 6.30pm), India now has at least 2,00,327 Covid-19 cases. This number will rise further because some states with very high caseloads (like Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat) are yet to release their daily figures for today (June 2).

Among the states for which data is available, Tamil Nadu saw the highest number of new Covid-19 cases being reported today. A total of 1,091 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the state today. With this, Tamil Nadu’s overall figure now stands at 24,586 cases.

Besides Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan reported at least 291 cases today (as of 6pm). The state now has 9,271 cases.

In Assam, at least 123 new cases were reported today. With this, the state now has ,1513 Covid-19 cases.

In Haryana, 106 new cases have been reported since the last update. The state now has 2,462 cases.

Himachal Pradesh reported five new cases, taking its total to 345.

Arunachal Pradesh has reported five new cases today, taking the state’s tally to 27. Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a tweet said the five new cases are all asymptomatic. “All of them are in quarantine facility and they are being shifted to Covid Care Centres.”

 

Collectively, these states reported at least 1,621 new Covid-19 cases today. However, the overall daily figure for the country will be much higher once the remaining states also release their data.

For the past 10 days, India has been reporting more than 6,300 cases every day. In the past three days, the country has been reporting more than 8,000 cases every day.

The highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases was reported on June 1 with 8,392 new cases.
