Jammu, 06 July : Amidst the towering peaks and treacherous landscapes of the Himalayas lies the sacred Amarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage of immense spiritual significance for millions of devotees. The annual yatra, which attracts devotees from all over the world, takes place in the picturesque region of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The Amarnath Yatra 2023 got off to a successful start on July 01, 2023, with the first batch of pilgrims setting off from the Baltal base camp. The yatra is expected to see over 3 lakh pilgrims this year, and so far, the arrangements have been smooth. According to the Jammu and Kashmir government, over 10,000 pilgrims have already reached the cave shrine. The yatra is being conducted in a phased manner, with the first phase which started on July 01 and will end on July 15.
The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most popular pilgrimages in India, and it brings in a significant amount of revenue for the local economy. The economic benefits of the Amarnath Yatra are felt across the region, from the small villages along the route of the yatra to the larger towns and cities in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) approximately 500 buses, 1,000 food stalls, 40,000 accommodations and 10,000 porters have been employed for the Amarnath Yatra and it is expected to generate over ₹350 crore revenue for the region.
The civil administration has been able to make such excellent arrangements which is possible only due to safety and security assured by all the Security Forces. Presently the Yatri is able to see the security provided by valiant men of Jammu Kashmir Police and the Para Military Forces. However what is not seen is the crucial role played by the Indian Army in ensuring the safety and well-being of the pilgrims as they navigate the harsh terrain. The Indian Army has been involved in the Amarnath Yatra since its inception in 1948. The Army provides security to the pilgrims along the entire route of the yatra by carrying out intense area domination patrolling along the NH 44 from Jammu to Banihal and beyond. The area domination ensures a protective layer against any terrorists who want to approach the National Highway and strike the Yatris convoy. This in turn facilitates BSF, CRPF, JKP in providing direct security cover to the Amarnath Yatris.
It is essential to recognize the dedication, bravery, and professionalism of the army personnel involved in this critical task. Their tireless efforts, often under challenging conditions, contribute to the successful execution of the pilgrimage while prioritizing the safety and well-being of the pilgrims. As we embark on this year’s Amarnath Yatra, let us acknowledge and appreciate the unwavering support of the army in bolstering the security arrangements. Their commitment to serving the nation and protecting its citizens remains invaluable. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the army and all security forces involved in ensuring a safe and secure Amarnath Yatra. May this sacred pilgrimage be a source of spiritual enlightenment and peace for all.
