Jammu, 25 September 2026: The Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences (SDCSS), Central University of Jammu, hosted an inspiring and insightful interaction with senior officials from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), under the mentorship of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain, and the guidance of Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha, Convener, Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences and Head, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Central University of Jammu.
The visit provided students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering with a unique opportunity to interact directly with professionals associated with India’s prestigious space programme and gain valuable insights into emerging developments in space science and technology.
Shri G. Harikrishnan, Director, Capacity Building and Public Outreach (CBPO), ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India, along with Shri M. Vamshidhar Reddy, Scientist/Engineer, ISRO, visited the Centre and interacted with students, faculty members and research scholars. The interaction focused on advancements in space science, research, technology and innovation, as well as the expanding opportunities available in India’s rapidly growing space sector.
A major highlight of the visit was the presentation of ongoing student projects and space-technology initiatives undertaken at the Centre. The ISRO officials reviewed projects related to the IN-SPACe Model Rocketry Programme, CanSat India Student Competition, CanSat Ground Station Dashboard, V-Dipole and Quadrifilar Helical Antennas for Ground Stations, and the Yagi Antenna developed by B.Tech. ECE students. Detailed discussions were also held on the Radiosonde Project, being undertaken under the guidance of the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), ISRO.
The student presentations reflected the growing enthusiasm, creativity and technical competence of the students of Central University of Jammu in diverse areas, including satellite communication, antenna design, atmospheric science, rocketry, CanSat systems and other emerging domains of the space sector. The interaction served as an important platform for connecting classroom learning with real-world applications and encouraged students to pursue innovative, hands-on projects, participate in national-level competitions and explore academic and professional opportunities in India’s expanding space ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain emphasized the importance of nurturing scientific temperament, innovation and research-oriented learning among students. He said, such interactions provide students with invaluable exposure to cutting-edge developments in space science and technology. The Vice Chancellor further appreciated the efforts of the Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in providing students with opportunities for experiential learning and meaningful engagement with leading national scientific institutions.
Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha, Convener, Satish Dhawan Centre for Space Sciences, conveyed his sincere appreciation to Shri G. Harikrishnan and Shri M. Vamshidhar Reddy for their valuable time, expert guidance and encouragement extended to the aspiring space scientists and engineers of Central University of Jammu. He expressed hope that such interactions would continue to motivate students to pursue innovative research and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s space and technology programmes.
