Jammu, December 12:

Responding to a clarion call of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to the industry to participate in the development of Jammu and Kashmir, ASSOCHAM today opened its office at Jammu with Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Girish Chandra Murmu seeking partnership with the chamber to launch key investment initiatives in the re-organised Union Territory, focussing on tourism and industrial development.

Inaugurating the ASSOCHAM’s J&K office, Shri Murmu said his government is keen on organising high level investment summits, on industry and tourism. He said, these global conferences would be organised in close partnership with the industry and he asked the ASSOCHAM to be key partner in reaching out to investors.

Exhorting industry to look for greater investment opportunities in the state, Shri Murmu lauded ASSOCHAM’s initiative to open its Jammu office, stating all-out efforts would be made to ensure a grand success of the planned industry and investment summits. He said youth of J&K are quite enthusiastic about different Start-Up initiatives of the government in partnership with the industry organisations.

In his welcome address, ASSOCHAM President Mr B.K. Goenka said, “During our recent interactions with Hon’ble Prime Minister, it was very evident that development and employment generation in Jammu & Kashmir is the top agenda among his priorities. In fact, he had asked us what we were doing in Jammu & Kashmir.”

Goenka said soon after the re-organisation of Jammu & Kashmir, the Prime Minister had given a clarion call to industry to extend its presence in Jammu & Kashmir. “It is his belief that the enhanced presence of industry would pave the way for private investment and lead to employment generation and development of Jammu & Kashmir. We at ASSOCHAM believe this is eminently doable.”

ASSOCHAM State Chair Mr Manik Batra said the industry and trade have an important role in ushering in development of J&K. “The people are craving for development of tourism, handicrafts, infrastructure, IT and several other industries. We have lined up several programmes both for the Jammu region and Srinagar.”
