Srinagar, Aug 14:
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar says that the reports suggested hand of terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JEM) behind the attack in Nowgam area of Srinagar in which two policemen were killed and one other injured.

The IGP said, “Jaish-e-Muhammad had carried out the attack. The terrorists have been identified and will be neutralized soon,” .

Earlier today morning the terrorists had indiscriminately opened fire on a police party in Nowgam area of Srinagar, seriously injuring three policemen.  The three injured were shifted to SMSH Hospital, however, two died on the way, he said.  A third is being treated at a hospital whose condition is said to be critical.

The attack comes a day before the day and when the whole of Kashmir, especially Srinagar district, is on high alert.  The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir had yesterday said that foolproof security arrangements were in place to thwart the militants’ strike and make all Independence Day activities easier.

Meanwhile, two slain policemen have been identified as Ashfaq Ayub and Fayyaz Ahmed while one injured has been identified as Muhammad Ashraf.
