Jammu, January 3: People of Jammu, irrespective of their religious affiliation, today came out in huge numbers to participate in the annual Nagar Kirtan, two days ahead of the birthday of 10th Sikh guru, Guru Gobind Singh.

Guru Gobind Singh was the last living Guru of the Sikh community and within his life time he had asked his followers to follow the Guru Granth Sahib.

On January 5, Guru’s birthday will be celebrated all over the India and the devotees will throng to the Gurdwaras around them to celebrate it.

On Friday, the Nagar Kirtan started from Gurdwara Chand Kour sahib of Jammu in which lakhs of people became part, and applauded and appreciated the participants who were dressed in their traditional and religious attire and performed different activities.

From young to old, girls to boys, everybody was on the ground and enjoyed food from stalls established across the route from Chand Kour Gurdwara to Nanak Nagar.

The district administration Jammu had put all the arrangements in the place and traffic was diverted from two other bridges, Gujjar Nagar and fourth bridge near Belicharana. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Jammu, Shiv Kumar was looking after the security whereas District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee Jammu office bearers were managing all the affairs.

Many political parties including the ruling National Conference (NC) had installed banners in the area to congratulate the Sikh community on the Nagar Kirtan and ahead of the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh.
