At least two militants were killed on Wednesday in an encounter which broke out in South Kashmir in early hours of the day. The gunfight was reported in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The exchange of fie was still underway by the time this report was first published. No casualties have been incurred on the side of forces.

The incident was reported in Gopalpora area of Kulgam, where the security forces reportedly busted a militant hideout. A fierce gun battle immediately broke out in which two insurgents were gunned down. J&K Governor Chairs High-Level Meet to Review Amarnath Yatra Arrangements.

The identity of deceased is yet to be confirmed. Unverified reports have, however, labelled them as members of the Hizbul Mujahideen.

The encounter comes four days after four militants were killed in the Valley in two separate encounters. One among them was allegedly involved in the assassination of soldier Aurangzeb last year.

Three among the deceased were identified as Showkat Dar from Pulwama’s Panzgam, Irfan War from Baramulla’s Sopore and Muzaffar Sheikh from Pulwama’s Tahab. All of them were neutralised after being encircled in an encounter in Pulwama. They were identified as Hizbul militants.
