Jammu , February 22 Jammu is all set to re celebrate and rejuvenate its rich culture heritage at three- day- long Tawi festival spotlighting the region’s Arts and Ideas .

The festival will be hosted by Hari Tara Charitable Trust , named after the last Dogra king of Jammu and Kashmir Mahraja and Hari Singh and queen Tara.

The Tawi Festival of Arts and Ideas’ – a festival of creativity, inclusiveness, tradition and modernity in Jammu, will be commencing from February 25th, 2023 at the Amar Mahal Museum & Library, Jammu.

The three-day art, cultural and literary festival has been conceptualized and curated by Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director of the Amar Mahal Museum & Library and a member of the erstwhile Dogra royal family, with an aim to honour and revive the rich traditions and culture of Jammu region.

Over a span of three days, the festival will celebrate creativity and tradition of Jammu by bringing together an eclectic amalgamation of art, music, culture, literature, and stimulating ideas. The visitors will get to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds, and flavors of this dynamic region. From traditional dance performances to contemporary art exhibits, the festival showcases the best and brightest of Jammu’s artistic and cultural scene in the beautiful landscape of the Amar Mahal, overlooking the Tawi river.

The festival will be inaugurated on February 25th at 10:00 AM, by former Governor and founder of the Amar Mahal Museum & Library, Maharaja Dr. Karan Singh who is a patron of the arts, culture and traditions of Jammu region. A renowned art-history scholar, Professor B.N Goswamy will be giving a presentation themed ‘The things which we do not see’ on the Nala Damayanti paintings featured in the iconic Amar Mahal Museum collection. Many visitors are expected to attend from across the country. Mr. Rajendra Pawar, Chairman NIIT Group and Ms. Anusha Khanna, Founder of Royal Fables will also be participating in the events.

Giving its visitors a deeper understanding of the beauty and complexity of Jammu’s art and culture, the demonstration and display of Basohli and Kangra miniature paintings, contemporary art and sculpture, traditional and classical music and dance will be some of the unique experiences for visitors.Traditional royal costumes of the Dogra Maharanis, Maharani Tara Devi and Maharani Yasho Rajya Lakshmi will be on display. Further, rare books from the collection of the Dogra Maharajas dating back to the early 19th century will also be displayed.

Visitors will witness a Grand Mela with dances, music and traditional culinary delights from across Jammu region. Traditional folk artist, Asha Rani, a Bhaakh exponent and Mukteshi Sharma, classical vocalist will be performing. The Dogri cuisine and Himachali Dham will be served with paid passes and street foods of Jammu will be available at the Mela which will also showcase folk dances, street theatre and handicrafts.

The Tawi Festival has been curated by Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director of the Amar Mahal Museum & Library with the valuable assistance of Lalit Gupta, Art Historian, Suman Gupta and Rajinder Tikkoo, Senior Artists, Kirpal Singh, former Curator, Dogra Art Museum and Bhavneet Kaur, author. Milan Sharma will be putting together a project by students of IMFA, Jammu and INTACH, Jammu will be displaying its activities at the event as well.
