A Delhi-based woman entrepreneur, who is a native of Jammu, has taken the initiative to provide a platform to young aspiring minds of Jammu to give shape to their ideas which can lead to job creation and help them to grow as individuals.

Shakun Sethi has pioneered the concept of ‘Jammu and Kashmir Future Talks’ to mobilise and encourage youth of J&K for start-up initiatives so as to solve the problem of unemployment.

“In the first phase, every month one university will host the students of other universities and also a well-renowned guest from the start-up industry in India and abroad will generate awareness regarding the start-up sector and opportunities present in the world,” Shakun saidwhile giving details of her initiatives.

She said the first meeting was hosted on October 27, 2017, at the Central University of Jammu. “We have already hosted four such interactions with eminent personalities like Japan Vyas, an investor, Apurva Chamaria, vice-president and head of corporate marketing for HCL Technologies, Prasoon Gupta, founder, Sattviko and 2017’s entrepreneur of the year recipient and Sahil Dharia, founder, Soothe Healthcare, a health hygiene start-up manufacturing sanitary pads,” she said.

The aim of the project is to create at least two robust start-ups every year with support from universities, government and industry, irrespective of which university the students graduate from and in which field. “As the future of this initiative, the interactions will be taken over in Ladakh and Kashmir as well, creating a single ecosystem for students from the entire state. This is just phase one of the initiative,” she said.

Shakun herself is an entrepreneur running a start-up called Dizuna Communications which specialises in communication and information technology fields.

“While working from Jammu, I faced so many problems and when I get calls from students asking for advice, I know that specific steps need to be taken,” she said .  ( Courtesy The Tribune)
