Jammu , March 25: Treasury and opposition benches traded charges and countercharges in the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday amidst intense sloganeering by both sides on the issue of the daily wagers who have been agitating for their regularisation for the past few days.
The protesting daily wagers were lathicharged by police on several occasions. The issue was raised by the opposition in the house , demanding answers from the Omar Abdullah government , only to face intense questioning by the treasury benches that the police that lathichrged daily wagers was with the BJP government at the centre, which is represented by LG in the UT.
Treasury benches asked BJP to explain why police lathicharged protesting daily wagers. They accused BJP of double standard and raised slogans,” Chor Machae shor.”
The opposition responded with counter sloganeering.
The tempers were calmed after Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather intervened and advised that the agitating daily wagers should meet the committee formed by the government to air their grievances.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had announced formation of committee to look into the whole issue threadbare to find a way out to resolve the issue.
There are nearly 80,000 daily wagers in Jammu and Kashmir. They were recruited by various governments in the past.
