J&K Police arrested four fraudsters in Kulgam and recovered stolen property and cash from them, officials said on Tuesday.

Police station Kulgam in South Kashmir received a written complaint on February 14 from one Arshad Ahmad Parray son of Abdul Qayoom a resident of Chattabal stating therein that his septuagenarian father had visited the ATM of main branch J&K Bank Kulgam on February 6 to withdraw money.

As his father Qayoom is unable to utilize his ATM card he handed over it to an unknown person present there and requested him to withdraw cash from his account and shared his PIN with him in this regard.

The said person withdrew cash on his request but with malafide intentions and allegedly interchanged the ATM cards.

The accused used the ATM of the victim and withdrew a sum of Rs 40,000/- and carried out a few more withdrawals from the account of the complainant’s father, police said.

Taking cognisance of the matter a case was registered and investigations were taken up.

During the course of the investigation, a list of suspects was prepared for questioning and four persons identified as Sohail Ahmad Wani a resident of Rangrezpora, Kulgam, (ATM Exchanger), Wasim Ahmad Ganai also a resident of Rangrezpora Kulgam, Adnan Ahmad Ahangar a resident of Ziyarat Gali Kulgam and Umar Yaqoob Naik resident of Khuloora Malwan were arrested who confessed their involvement in this case and a number of other burglaries.

Six ATM Cards, 6 mobile phones and cash worth Rs 15000 have been recovered from them.

Further investigation of the case is in progress as more arrests and recoveries are expected, police said
