Srinagar, April 18 :

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power has entrusted FICCI with the responsibility of supporting its training program for capacity building of DISCOMs in Jammu & Kashmir, based on the dialogue with Forum of Regulators (FOR). The objective of the programme is capacity building of DISCOMs for carrying out load management, development of Demand Side Management (DSM) action plan and implementation of DSM activities in their respective areas.

FICCI organised its first program for Power Development Department, Jammu & Kashmir from 5-7 April 2018 in Srinagar. The second program was organised in Jammu from 9-11 April 2018.

DSM in the energy sector is a cost-effective and socially-beneficial tool. By adopting this program, BEE aims to implement DSM programmes in the state which will reduce the peak electricity demand and will directly benefit the people. Apart from the reduction in the load on the network, demand side management will also help in mitigating electrical system emergencies, reducing blackouts and increasing system reliability.

The other benefits of the programme include reducing the dependency on expensive import of fuel, reduction in the energy prices and along with reducing the harmful emissions to the environment.

DSM has a major role to play in deferring high investments in generation, transmission and distribution networks. The program will impart training to the circle-level officials of DISCOMs on DSM and energy efficiency apart from understanding the processes and technologies related to it.
