ANTF recovers 1,000 kgs of poppy straw

Ganderbal, Sep 11, KNT: Anti Narcotic Task Force J&K recovered 1,000 kilogram of poppy straw from three Punjab based trucks in Sonmarg and Ladakh.
Upon receipt of this information a team of ANTF was constituted which rushed towards Sonmarg, and with the help of District Police Ganderbal, intercepted two trucks bearing registration no’s PB 07-AL 2229, and HP 55B- 0711. Upon search of these vehicles 800 kg of poppy straw like substance was recovered.

On further investigation it came to the fore that one vehicle carrying poppy straw had already left for Leh. This 3rd vehicle was intercepted near Leh and poppy straw like substance weighing in quintals was recovered.

“Two individuals driving the trucks have been arrested from the Valley and one from Leh so far,” said a police officer to news agency Kashmir News Trust.
He said that a total 1000 kgs of Poppy Straw has been recovered which is one of the biggest catch in recent past.
A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in this matter, and more arrests are expected after backward and forward linkages are looked into.

Official sources said that ANTF received an input regarding smuggling of narcotic substance in two trucks plying from Valley to Leh.
