Srinagar, July 9: Kashmir leaders cutting across their arty lines have unequivocally condemned terror attack on the Indian army troops in Macchedi area of Kathua district on Monday and taken Pakistan to task for sponsoring terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir , saying that it will not land anywhere by such blood-shed campaign.
All leaders – Farooq Abdullah , Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, Omar Abdullah , Mehbooba Mufti and Sajad Gani Lone have condemned the attack in which five soldiers were killed and five others critically wounded . they have also expressed their solidarity with the families of the soldiers killed in line of duty.
Farooq Abdullah, who was once advocate of talks with Pakistan to help improve the situation , has now called for Pakistan to halt all its terror activities first before hoping for a seat on the table for talks . This, he said, should be clear that it will gain nothing out of .
In fact, he wondered , why Pakistan is doing so. “ It is ruined . Its economy is marooned , its political stability is in question , I don’t know what would Pakistan gain by sending terrorists to Jammu and Kashmir on a killing campaign,” he said and added” I am unable to grasp the thinking behind such a campaign.” He warned that Pakistan should not test Indian patience , and if run out , Pakistan would be responsible for the consequences .
Jammu Kashmir Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari while condemning the incident , expressed his solidarity with the families of the soldiers who died in the terror attack in Kathua. He posted on X, “ My deepest condolences to the families of the five brave army personnel who lost their lives in Kathua . The attack is truly condemnable . Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. Our hearts go out to families affected by this tragedy.”
This sort of condemnation makes two things clear that Kashmir has turned its back to the violence , and they empathize with the soldiers who lost their lives in the attack . Directly or indirectly , it is a message to Pakistan , enough is enough now stop terrorism and Kashmir is intolerant to violence and spilling of blood of soldiers . The condemnation in itself is indictment of Pakistan that sponsors terrorism in J&K. Pakistan has been sending terrorists , highly trained to attack on the people and soldiers alike .
PDP chief and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti posted on X: “Condemn the terror attack in Kathua that claimed the lives of four soldiers. Tragic & equally shocking that they are losing their lives in the line of duty in places where one found little to no trace of militancy before 2019. Tells you all there is to know about the current security situation in J&K. Deepest condolences to their families.”
It is typical style of Mehbooba Mufti condemning the terror attack and at the same time reminding that such attacks have found space where there existed none in the past .
Another former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had written on X within minutes after the reports of attack surfaced :” Terrible news from Kathua. It’s a very bad day when you lose four brave army personnel in the line of duty. I condemn the attack unequivocally and send my heartfelt condolences to the families. I hope the injured make a swift & complete recovery.”
The leaders have chosen strong words to condemn the terror attack. This is manifestation of their anger over the acts perpetrated by Pakistan terrorists trained by it , as there is a greater realization now that violence wrought destruction on Kashmir in the past over three decades , and now they identify themselves with India , and the army .
People’ Conference chief Sajad Lone stated :” Yet again news of a dastardly terror attack in Kathua. Four Army men have lost their lives and more are injured. Strongly condemns the attack. My thoughts and prayers with families. May they find peace and courage to bear this terrible loss. May the departed souls rest in peace.”
These messages should be read more than what the words convey .
