Sangita, a graduate from Dehradun and alumini of Army Public School, Clement Town cleared the Service Selection Board examination in December 2017 and will now undergo further training at Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai with effect from April 2018.

Rifleman Shshir Mall of 32 RR Rashtriya Rifles (RR) (Parent unit 3/9 GR) husband of Sangita Mall on September 2, 2015 was the leading scout of his operational team during specific search of village Ladura in J&K.  As efforts to neutralize the terrorist hiding in the house by grenades and small arms did not yield results.  Rifleman Shshir Mall and his buddy were tasked to provide covering fire for placement of the Improvised Explosive Device was initiated the terrorist escaped towards the drain, north of the house.

Rifleman Shshir Mall alongwith his buddy volunteered to clear the drain and thick undergrowth around it where the terrorist was believed to have taken shelter.  The terrorist who was hiding suddenly brought down heavy fire on them, pinning them down.  Rifleman Shshir Mall spotted the terrorist and asked his buddy to reposition himself behind the continuously engaging him by fire.  Undaunted, he continued engaging and closing in till he eliminated the terrorist at very close range.

In doing so the individual sustained fatal wounds and collapsed making the supreme sacrifice.

Rifleman Shshir Mall displayed exemplary courage, indomitable spirit and camaraderie in saving his fellow soldier and eliminating the terrorist before laying down his life.  For this act, he was awarded Sena Medal (Posthumous) on 26 January 2016.

Hailing from Dehradun, Sangita will fulfill her dream of stepping into her late husband’s shoes to serve the nation through the Indian Army.  The death of her husband has instilled single minded determination to serve the nation by joining Indian Army.   The eleven months training will involve grueling tasks in addition to class room lessons on strategy and Military history.

In a ceremony held today at Station Headquarters, Clement Town Brig Subhash Panwar, Station Commander felicitated Mrs Sangita Mall on behalf of Lt Gen BS Negi, Army Commander Central Command.
