The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed her deepest condolences on the death of elderly party leader, former MLC and PAC member Yashpal Sharma (75).

“it’s with great grief that i learned of the demise of Yashpal ji who was not only a lifelong friend of Mufti Sahab but also a deeply married party leader,”Mehbooba said.

 Born in Poonch, around 280 km from Jammu, eldest of four siblings, Yashpal ji came active in pupil politics while studying law. He formed a movement in the college with the philosophy of brotherhood and equality. He’d first brush with street politics in 1978 in Poonch and led massive agitations for securing justice and rights there on in Poonch and Rajouri.

 Recalling his commitment PDP chairman further said that Yashpal Ji, as former MLC and party leader in public service for nearly four decades, devoted himself to the interest and prosperity of his people and District Poonch.

“i do know that this moment fills people of Poonch with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Yashpal Ji altered the course of individual lives, families, and shaped the political discourse. Despite the turbulent circumstances Yashpal ji never succumbed to slogans of communalism and was the biggest proponent of brotherhood and amity,”she added.

 In her condolence message Mehbooba Mufti has prayed for strength to the bereft family and eternal peace to the departed soul.

“My thoughts and prayers are with Adv Sunil Ji, Dr Sushil Ji and other members of the family in this hour of grief. May his soul rest in eternal peace,”Mehbooba said.
