Says it’s an opportunity for PM Modi to prove he is following Vajpayee’s Kashmir policy

Srinagar, May 5:

The People’s Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti Saturday appealed to New Delhi and the militants to announce ceasefire in J&K for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan commencing next week.

She said the ceasefire would be an opportunity for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prove that he was following former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s Kashmir policy of “Insaniyat’, Jamhooriyat’ and Kashmiriyat”.

“Ours is a Muslim-majority state; it is a month of prayers. So I appeal to New Delhi to announce the ceasefire. Like last Ramadan, the crackdowns, search operations and encounters should stop so that people get some relief during this holy month,” Mehbooba told a press conference here.

“In view of the Ramadan the (anti-militancy) operations should be avoided,” Mehbooba said.

Mehbooba, the former Chief Minister asked the militants to stop attacks on the security forces during the holy month, saying they should “understand that this is a month of blessings, prayers and repentance”.
